Ribeiro Santo – Encruzado 2019, from Dão

Ribeiro Santo – Encruzado is a white wine, produced by Magnum Vinhos on Quinta do Ribeiro Santo, in the Dão wine region of Portugal.

The Magnum Vinhos was born in 2011 and today is one of the most recognized and prestigious wine companies in the region. Over the years, they added more vineyards in Alentejo, Douro and Dão to the portfolio.

Carlos Lucas winemaker raises Magnum Vinhos, presenting to the country and the world his excellent, authentic and expressive wines.

Quinta do Ribeiro Santo was an ancient property of a local priest. It was surrounded by a stream where water flowed all year round, even during very dry years, so it was named Quinta do Ribeiro Santo, which means ‘Holly River Estate’. It was purchased by the family of Carlos Lucas in 1994, who immediately planted his own vineyard and started to bottle his first wine, in 2000.

The vineyard stands on the traditional grape varieties, typical of the region, Touriga Nacional, Alfrocheiro, Tinto Cão and Encruzado, planted in granitic poor soils, with rocky schist outcrops.

The wine was produced exclusively from 100% of Encruzado grapes in the vintage of 2019, and the result is a white wine that shows the authenticity of this variety in a fresh and elegant way.

The harvest took place in September. The grapes were harvested by hand, according to a careful selection of the best grapes in the vineyard. The grapes were totally destemmed and immediately pressed. The resulting juice went to a small stainless steel tank, where was decanted for 2 days at low temperature. Then it was fermented in French oak barrels.

The wine presents a light golden yellow color.

On the nose, intense, delicate fruity aromas of peach, passion fruit, green apple and pear, with some citrus fruits and white floral tones in the background.

On the palate, rounded, mineral, fresh fruity flavors and medium, citrus acidity in an excellent balance, with few buttery notes. An easy-drinking and beautifully silky wine.

The drink has good volume and structure, a medium body, with a medium-long, slightly creamy finish, accompanied by some lemon peel.

13% alcohol content.

Serve this wine at 10-12 °C temperature.

Consume it as an aperitif, or is pairing well with shrimp or any seafood, grilled fish and white meat.

A fantastic bottle of wine from Portugal!

Cheers!
