Onda Nova – Alicante Bouschet 2012, from Algarve

Onda Nova – Alicante Bouschet 2012, produced by Adega do Cantor, in Algarve, Portugal.

Adega do Cantor (‘Winery of the Singer’) is situated in Guia, a few kilometers northwest of Albufeira, in the Algarve wine region of Portugal. The winery produces wines from three surrounding vineyards: Quinta do Moínho, Quinta do Miradouro and Vale do Sobreiro. Their wine brands are called Vida Nova and Onda Nova.

The Adega was founded by the British pop star Sir Cliff Richard. However, he has already sold his Quinta a few years ago, but the new owners continued his work.

The winery is located at the top of the Quinta do Miradouro creating stunning views of the surrounding vineyards and the Atlantic Ocean coastline. It utilizes a combination of traditional and modern winemaking techniques.

The Portuguese ‘Onda Nova’ brand name means ‘New Wave’ in English.

This multi-awarded red wine was made from 100% of Alicante Bouschet grape variety, in the vintage of 2012. The wine was fermented in open lagares from selected vineyard blocks and matured in new American oak barrels for 12 months.

It presents a deep garnet color with a brownish hue, in the glass.

On the nose, intense smoky-sweet flavors of Alicante Bouschet appear. Aromas of black fruits, black cherry, blackberry and black plum, with strong black peppery notes and mild touches of sweet tobacco.

On the palate, a full-bodied, robust, dense, tannin-rich dry red wine with intense spicy flavors, black fruits, dried figs, raisin and licorice. Persistent finish with clove, prune and oaky notes.

Must be drunk with food!

14% alcohol content.

This aged red wine goes well with wild meats, venison or boar, and the Portuguese black pork. Or also with any roasts, barbecue and grilled vegetables.

It should be served at a temperature of 18 °C but do not forget to decant it for a minimum of 30 minutes before consuming.

A perfect wine from Algarve, the emerging Portuguese wine region.

Do not miss to taste it!

Cheers!
