Adega do Cantor winery, in Algarve, Portugal

Quinta do Miradouro is located in the heart of the Algarve wine region of Portugal.

The Algarve has excellent conditions for producing fruit-driven wines in a modern style. Cooling on-shore breezes moderate the heat of the southern sun while the poor limestone soils limit water, providing an ideal environment for maturing high-quality wine grapes.

The vineyard was founded by Sir Cliff Richard, the British pop star, so you can find the winery on the name of Adega do Cantor. Sir Cliff has known and loved the Algarve for over 60 years and was very much involved in producing the wine. In fact, he has already sold his vineyard some years ago, but the winery continued to operate with the new owner on the path he had begun.

The Adega do Cantor is a 200-tonne boutique winery, the birthplace of the famous and multi-awarded Vida Nova and Onda Nova wines, and its aim is to produce the highest quality wine that the region can offer using a combination of traditional and innovative modern winemaking techniques.

The plantings consist of Viognier, Syrah, Aragonês, Alicante Bouschet, Antão Vaz , Arinto and Verdelho grape varieties.

The winery features a combination of static tank-style and open, stainless steel fermenters.  Where possible they use gravity to move the grapes around the winery and this allows them to treat the grapes with the utmost care.

Their cellars have a capacity of 150 barrels and are used mainly for barrel and bottle maturing their Reserve wines. These cellars are temperature-controlled.

Most of the vineyard operations are done by hand. They manage the vineyards in a sustainable manner using only the mildest agricultural products in a program designed to prevent the onset of any vineyard diseases. At harvest, they pick and process all the fruits gently by hand. This is fully consistent with their policy to produce only the highest quality wines.

The cellar door and tasting bar are designed to offer the ideal relaxed environment in which to taste and purchase the wines. They produce all kinds of wines, rosé, white and red ones, as well as sparkling wines.

From the outside tasting terrace which stunning views of the surrounding vineyards and coastline can be enjoyed.

The winery is worth a visit!
