Quinta dos Vales – Selecta 2017, a red wine from the Algarve region of Portugal, produced by Quinta dos Vales.
This IGP (regional) wine was produced in the southernmost and the sunniest wine region of the country where the summer is hot, dry and long, and the winter is mild and short with rainfall concentrated between October and February and occasionally heavy in April. Microclimate favored by the proximity of the Atlantic enjoying a mild and constant climate and by the protection provided by the Serra de Monchique against the northern winds.
The Quinta dos Vales has very quickly become the leading wine producer in the up-and-coming Algarvian wine industry.
This Selecta is a blend of the Petit Verdot, Alicante Bouchet, Touriga Franca and Cabernet Sauvignon grape varieties, growing on clay-limestone soil, in the vintage of 2017.
The grapes are harvested manually, then cooled down to a temperature of 5˚C and selected by hand the next day, which is followed by their destemming and crushing. The maceration and fermentation processes happen in stainless steel vats under a controlled temperature of 22-24°.
The wine presents a medium-dark ruby color with burgundy nuances.
On the nose, a combination of ripe red and wild fruits aromas, with some floral notes and spices, plum, blueberries, dark chocolate, mocha, violet, toast and herbs.
On the palate, medium-bodied wine with a fresh attack of acidity, and assorted red fruits flavors. A well-rounded, very pleasant wine in all its main components such as acidity, alcohol content and tannins. A charming finish with soft and slightly sweet tannins predominated. The drink has aging potential.
14% abv.
Consume this wine at about 18ºc of temperature.
The wine reveals ripe berries and some complexity in the mouth that goes marvelously together with oven-cooked pork meat, a nice barbecue, and a good assortment of sausages or cheeses.
An excellent Algarve red wine from Quinta dos Vales.
