Vale do Bomfim 2018, from Douro

Vale do Bomfim 2018 from the DOC Douro. This wine was birth in the Quinta do Bomfim, the Symington Family Estate.

The Quinta’s name derives from Vale do Bomfim, which means ‘the valley well placed’, as this area is located around the village of Pinhão. In 1912, Andrew James Symington fell in love with the Douro and its wines and believed that, in order to build a lasting wine business, he and his wife should instill in their children a long-term vision. For this aim, he transformed the Quinta do Bomfim into his family home and since then, generations of Symington winemakers work the vineyards and enjoy stays on this beautiful estate.

Quinta do Bomfim one of the best properties in the Douro, located in the heart of the Alto Douro, ideally located in a transition area between temperate and Mediterranean climates. Predominantly facing south, with ample sun exposure, the vine terraces are arranged on schist slopes.

The wine is produced from Touriga Franca, Touriga Nacional and a blend of traditional Douro grape varieties. The grapes were selected, followed by a smooth destemming and a gentle crushing at the entrance of the fermentation vats. Fermented in stainless steel vats and used oak barrels.

The drink presents a medium ruby color.

On the nose, aromas of dark and dried fruits, plum, prune, blackberries, complemented by floral fragrances and spices such as violet, pepper and cinnamon, and adding some oaky notes, cedar, mocha and clove.

On the palate, smooth wine with a good balance between the medium level of acidity and tannins. A medium-bodied wine with plum and peppery notes in a medium persistent finish. A very nice, pleasant, elegant wine.

14% ABV.

Should consume at the temperature of 14-16 ºC.

Ideal pairing with red and pig meats, hamburgers, or pizzas.
