Freedom Day on April 25th is a national holiday in Portugal. It celebrates the 1974 Revolution that ended the dictatorship and started a democracy. Known as the Carnation Revolution, this was a virtually bloodless, leftist, military-led coup.
Let’s celebrate with this Quinta da Pedra Cavada Reserva red wine, produced by Colinas do Douro, in the Douro Superior wine region of Portugal.
The Colinas do Douro, located in the extreme southeast of the Douro Demarcated Region, at the Douro International Natural Park.
This Quinta has unique conditions for the production of wines with a unique profile, markedly elegant, fresh, mineral wines with longevity, with its altitude, northern exposure and geological transition.
The wine is a blend of grapes from different altitudes of Douro Superior, partially aged in oak barrels.
It presents a clear ruby color.
On the nose, seductive aromas of violet with a lot of black fruits, blackberry, black cherry and plum, some wood, lots of spice, licorice, anise, eucalyptus, and vanilla.
On the palate, juicy, round wine with ripe and sweet tannins, medium body, medium acidity, and a very fine finish.
Soft and very elegant profile with a good balance. Light and smooth wine, easy to drink.
Alcohol content: 14%
Pairing nicely well with steak, gourmet burgers, rack of lamb, or baked pasta.
