Janelas Antigas – Grande Escolha, from Vinho Verde

In this warm summer, there is no better refreshing drink than a glass (or two) of white Portuguese wine.

This Janelas Antigas white was produced by Casa de Vila Verde winery in the famous Vinho Verde wine region of Portugal.

Located in the Demarcated Region of Vinho Verde, in the heart of the Sousa Valley, about 40 km from the city of Porto, in Lousada, Casa de Vila Verde is one of the oldest houses in the region, surrounded by flowerbeds with hydrangeas. Exploring an agricultural area of about 100 hectares, the winery already has a long tradition in Vinho Verde, with records of its production dating back to the 17th century.

The region’s fresh and humid climate as a result of the strong Atlantic influence, and the high precipitation of this region even in the summer, originate wines with strong aromatic intensity, high freshness, minerality, and elegance.

Nowadays, the winery’s activity combines the traditional with cutting-edge production and vinification techniques. In recent years, very significant investments have been made in the modernization and strengthening of Quinta’s winery capacity.

The Casa Santos Lima company is responsible for the management of 70 hectares of vineyard and for the production and commercialization of its wines.

In Casa de Vila Verde you can find the most noble and emblematic grapes of the region such as Alvarinho, Arinto, Avesso, Espadeiro, Loureiro, and Trajadura.

The harvest is made in September when the grapes are carefully picked by hand and by variety.

The wine is a blend of the Arinto, Avesso, Loureiro, Trajadura grape varieties, that is growing on granite and clay soils.

Vinification: pressing after total destemming with exclusive use of free run juice, with temperature control to 12-14 ºC.

The wine presents a light citrus color.

Vegetable aromas with citrus peel, lime, and lemon are immediately appealing on the nose. Accompanied with tropical notes of pineapple and passion fruit.

On the palate, fresh and citric flavors, with a dry, frizzy taste in medium intensity. A very smooth and rounded wine, all in lightness but full of flavor and subtlety.

An exciting and refreshing drink that perfectly combines the aromas of the four of the most famous grape varieties of the region, resulting in a very fresh and fruity wine with balanced acidity.

Alcohol content: 11,5% vol.

It’s great for pairing with light meals, salads, grilled salmon, and clam rice, or can be served on its own.

A beautiful white wine that tasted very fresh, with great intensity in the citrus aftertaste.
