Salta Paredes Premium red, from Douro

Let’s head to the Douro Valley today to meet a family company with a tradition in the production of Douro wines with a careful selection of quality grapes.

This is the Morvalley winery whose wines offer intense, colorful, and textured flavors, due to the natural selection process guided by knowledge acquired over time.

My today’s wine is the Salta Paredes Premium red from the vintage 2019. The name means ‘jump the walls’ which can refer to the roedeer on the label.

The wine is a blend of the Touriga Nacional and Touriga Franca grape varieties.

Touriga Franca is the most planted grape variety in the Douro region, playing a decisive role in the port and table wines. It contains a strong concentration of tannins and offers abundant fruit, a dense body, and a firm structure providing an elegant wine. This grape is regularly blended with the Touriga Nacional variety, which is considered the Queen of the grapes in Portugal. This grape gives deep color to the wine, accompanied by explosive floral and fruity flavors.

The drink presents an opaque ruby color in the glass.

Intense and complex aromas on the nose, with strong evidence of ripe berries, with notes of plum, chocolate, and hints of spice.

On the palate, smooth and dense, with well-balanced matured tannins combined with oak. The acidity balances with the fruity flavors making it a polished but robust wine, with excellent aging capacity. A floral, medium persistence aftertaste.

Alcohol content 13,5%

The wine is recommended to be consumed at around 18 °C.

Pairing perfectly well with red meats, even a steak, and blue cheese.
