Selecção de Enófilos, Vinho Verde Branco – I just grabbed it out from the fridge in a supermarket to make me fresh in this warm weather in Portugal now. And what a choice!
Selecção de Enófilos (“Selection of Oenophiles”, connoisseurs of wines) is a wine brand, sold exclusively at a supermarket chain’s stores in Portugal, which has built a wide range of wines that represent the best of the various Portuguese wine regions, has to offer from north to south, with excellent quality wines at the best price.
The brand’s philosophy is to maintain a high standard of quality and this is reflected in the various awards it has received over the years, having 7 wines that were awarded by the International Wine Challenge Contest in 2020.
This white wine was bottled by the Quintas de Melgaco Agricultura in the Vinho Verde DOC wine region.
This region, limited to the North by the River Minho and to the West by the Atlantic Ocean, is the largest Portuguese wine-growing area.
It is greatly influenced by sea breezes and the richness of its hydrographic resources, which provide mild temperatures throughout the year. Its mostly granitic soils, combined with high levels of precipitation and a relatively high level of atmospheric humidity, produce a brilliant wine, typically acidic and light.
The wine presents a clear appearance with light citrus color.
I didn’t find any info about what kind of grape varieties was produced this blend but it shows intense fruity aromas on the nose, mango and melon with peachy and citric notes.
On the palate, strong fruity flavors with good, but not too harsh acidity. A dry wine with the light sweetness of fruits and tiny bubbles, showing a low alcohol level (10,5%). Dry and appealing, medium-long finish.
A wine to be drunk young.
Consume it by itself, as an aperitif, or pairing well with fish, seafood, shellfish, vegetarian and white meat dishes, or appetizers and snacks.
Pleasant to drink! So… just grab a bottle from the fridge and enjoy!
Saúde (Cheers)!
