Mocho Galego Premium red wine, produced by the Monte da Ravasqueira, in the Alentejo wine region of Portugal.
Monte da Ravasqueira, linked for several generations to the José de Mello family is located in the municipality of Arraiolos, an hour away from Lisbon, occupying a vast area of typical Alentejo landscape.
Their products are the wines of a pure sense of terroir – these wines are discoveries and artistic expressions of the art of viticulture and oenology in combination with the terroir. A range of unique and exclusive wines.
The wine’s Portuguese name ‘Mocho Galego‘ on the label means Galician owl in English.
This owl is a curious and elegant animal that lends its name to this exuberant and well-balanced wine. The owl is the easiest nocturnal bird to observe due to its partially diurnal habits. It usually hovers over the vineyard and hides out in ruins or heaps of stones within the lands of the property.
This wine is a blend of the Aragonez, Touriga Nacional and Trincadeira grape varieties.
The grapes were harvested manually and mechanically, then partially crushing with total destemming. Cold maceration, pre-fermentation and fermentation at a controlled temperature. Aged for 3 months in American oak barrels.
This young drink presents a pale ruby color.
On the nose, aromas of ripe black fruits such as blackcurrant, black cherry, mixed with some oaky notes of chocolate, cedar and vanilla.
On the palate, elegant floral fruit flavors, nice velvet texture, mildly tannic taste and high acid. The aging in oak barrels gave the drink warm notes of chocolate and spices.
A fresh, elegant and lovely fruity dry wine with a medium-long, creamy finish.
It has a 13,5% of alcohol content.
As a traditional Alentejo wine, it goes well with steak or grilled dishes, salads or as an aperitif.
