Porto Cruz Pink Rosé

Rosé Port is a highly aromatic style of Port made in the demarcated wine region of the Douro, in northern Portugal. The style was introduced by Croft in 2008.

Like other Port wines, Rosé Port can be a blend of grape varieties. The most commonly used are Touriga Franca, Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz (Tempranillo), Tinta Barroca and Tinto Cão.

This Porto Cruz Pink wine has a wonderful deep pink color with red highlights.

On the nose, ripe red berry aromas like strawberry, raspberry and redcurrant mixed with some floral notes of cherry blossoms and a touch of vanilla.

On the palate, intense fruity flavors of strawberries with the sweetness of honey. Silky and smooth with a warm, long aftertaste on your throat because of the high (19%) alcohol level.

An elegant dessert wine with light acidity, and there’s a good balance between acidity and sweetness.

Winemaking: Porto Cruz Pink is a fortified wine, due to the addition of brandy, produced in the Ruby Port style.

The red grapes are vinified with minimal skin contact, creating the rosé color, and reducing the amount of tannin in the wine. Rosé Port’s distinctive freshness and the soft, pleasant flavor is enhanced further with the application of cold settling prior to cool fermentation.

As with other Ports, the fermentation process is halted with the addition of high-proof grape brandy that kills the yeast cells. This also has the added effect of raising the alcohol level to 19%.

In a departure from older, more traditional Port styles, Rosé Port is not aged.

The Rosé Port with its fruity flavors can be enjoyed by itself or in a cocktail. From the aperitif to after-dinner drinks, this Port wine to perfectly accompany each step of a meal, from fish to red berry desserts, or blue cheeses.

It should be enjoyed within the month after opening.

Serve chilled, at a temperature between 8 – 10 ºC.
