Vinha Maria 2017, from Dão

This Vinha Maria red wine was produced by Global Wines in the Dão wine region of Portugal.

The company was born in 1990 in Dão with the aim to be the biggest company in the oldest region of still and unfortified wines in Portugal- the Dão Wine Region. When they reached this goal, they chased other adventures in other regions and other countries. Today the company operates in more different regions of Portugal, and with their modern wines, they show the diversity of the Portuguese vineyards.

The Dão DOC was created in 1908 and is known as the “Portuguese Burgundy”.

The main region characteristics are the soil predominantly granitic, with unique terroir, and a large thermal amplitude. The Dão wines’ character, elegance, and aging potential distinguish them from all the other wines.

Vinha Maria is one of the brands of Global Wines in the Dão region.

This Vinha Maria red wine is a blend of the Touriga Nacional, Aragonez and Alfrocheiro grape varieties, in the vintage of 2017.The wine presents a medium ruby color with a granite hue, and shows some smooth wine legs on the glass.
Very complex, delicate aromas on the nose, very ripe and dried fruits, prune, plum and cherry, intense in balsamic and oaky notes with cedar, chocolate and cinnamon.

On the palate, a balanced, easy and pleasant drink. Fruity wine, mixed with jelly and toasted notes. Medium body, good acidity and noble tannins with a medium-long dry finish.

Soft, elegant and harmonious Dão wine.

Winemaking: crushing of the grapes with total destemming, followed by alcoholic fermentation at 26 °C and prolonged skin maceration. 50% of the wine ages for 6 months in French oak barrels.
12.5% ABV.

Dão wines pair perfectly with the local gastronomy because of their exceptional acidity, complexity and delicate aromas.

This Vinha Maria wine goes well with steak, lamb, tomato-based dishes or dark chocolate.

Cheers!
