Escadaria Maior Premium 2018, from Douro

Escadaria Maior Premium 2018, a red wine produced by Colinas do Douro winery, in the Douro wine region of Portugal.

With several years of wine production in the Douro Superior sub-region with excellent results, the company named ‘Colinas do Douro’ has the vision of the production of unique wines.

This presented wine was made from some typical Port wine grapes such as Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz and Tinto Cão, from vineyards at different altitudes.

The grapes were harvested as typically in the Douro, in 18 kg boxes. After careful selection, the grapes macerate for 48 hours, releasing color and tannins, starting fermentation later. Then, partial aging of 1 year in French oak barrels.

The drink presents an intensely deep ruby color in the glass.

On the nose, it smells like a Port wine, presenting a large diversity of aromas, intense dark fruits (plum and cherry) and floral notes, hints of dried rose, accompanied with oaky aromas, tobacco, vanilla, and slight hints of nuts.

On the palate, a medium-bodied dry wine, with a nice balance between tannins and acidity. Intense fruity flavors in the mouth, round and smooth wine with a quite full taste, revealing unique complexity and elegance.

In summary, complex, elegant wine with round tannins and a medium persistent finish with slightly oaky notes.

The wine has 13,5 % alcohol content.

It should be consumed at a temperature of 16-18 °C but needs some aeration before serving.

This is a really enjoyable wine with the strong taste of Douro.

Cheers!
