Imprevisto Tinto 2017, from Algarve

Let’s go back to Algarve and taste Imprevisto Tinto 2017, a red wine produced by the Quinta de Mata-Mouros, in Algarve wine region of Portugal.

Quinta de Mata-Mouros – history and legend are in the winery’s name. According to old documents, the name of this place was written Matta de Mouros. In the 12th century, after the Moorish conquest of Silves, which lasted until the 19th century, the convent of Nossa Senhora do Paraíso was built here, and whose main structure is still preserved today.

Quinta de Mata-Mouros is an oasis of freshwater springs, fertile land and lush vegetation, in a naturally dry area, located on the left bank of the River Arade, in the Algarve, in southern Portugal, one of Portugal’s oldest wine-producing regions.

More recently, the owners of the Mata Mouros estate have taken up the challenge of producing high-quality wine, equal to the best references in the main wine regions of Portugal. To make a wine that takes full advantage of the unique and extraordinary conditions of the terroir and the climate of the region, maintaining the traditional wine processes, such as the press mill, but with the most modern technology.

Thus, in January 2012, in order to explore the wine potential of Quinta de Mata Mouros, the project “Convento do Paraíso” began.

The result of this investment in a unique territory and climate materializes today in the production of very high-quality wines.

The Algarve region struggles to make wines with balance. The weather gets too hot, the grapes too sweet and the wine too alcoholic.

This Imprevisto is the result of a long and meticulous study of the land and the local climate. The Portuguese name ‘Imprevisto’ means Unexpected, in English.

The wine is a blend of the Touriga Nacional, Aragonez and Cabernet Sauvignon grape varieties.

The 2017’s edition of Imprevisto presents a bright ruby color.

On the nose, quite aromatic wine with aromas of very ripe fruits such as cherry, plum and red berries, alongside earthy notes and smells of sweet florals, black pepper and dark chocolate.

On the palate, the wine is full of vigor and freshness. Intense flavors of fruits and the massive tannin have a grip, filling your mouth full of aromas that make it palatable from the first glass. There isn’t a harsh acidity. A silky, seductive and imposing dry wine, with a spice background in a persistent finish

Vinification: manual harvesting in the early hours of the day for 12 kg boxes. After selection and sorting, the grapes were destemmed and gently crushed. Fermentation took place in stainless steel vats at a controlled temperature.

The alcohol content is 13,5%.

Consume this wine at a temperature of 14 °C.

Pairing well with blue cheese, steak or grilled meats with peppery sauces.

Unexpectedly great wine!

Cheers!
