Conde de Arraiolos wines are produced by Herdade das Mouras de Arraiolos, which is located in the municipality of Arraiolos, a historical town in Alentejo, known country-wide for its traditions of hand-crafted embroidered carpets. According to studies that this craft started in the 12th century there.
Alentejo, a southern region of warm and dry rolling plains that cover approximately one-third of the country and holds 50 percent of the national wine market share.
The history of Arraiolos is long and rich since many people went through it and left their marks. It is a very picturesque village with its whitewashed houses, a castle and carpets. Its castle was built in 1305 by king Dinis, and he made it his home.
Unique conditions arise also for wine production, giving rise to Conde de Arraiolos wines, with a beautiful design on their labels.
The Portuguese name of this brand ‘Conde de Arraiolos’ means ‘Count of Arraiolos’. Anyway, Álvaro Pires de Castro was the first to receive this title, from King D. Fernando I of Portugal in 1371.
This monovarietal wine was made from the Syrah grape variety and presents a pale ruby color.
On the nose, intense aromas of black fruit, plum and blueberry, with a slight touch of spices, vanilla and jam. Soft notes of smokiness also present in the wine from the wood.
On the palate, smooth, balanced, wine with a predominance of black fruits, medium tannins and controlled acidity. Medium persistent, elegant finish.
The alcohol content is 13,5%.
Consume this wine between 12-15 °C temperature.
Pairing well with lamb, gyros or any Indian meals.
