Periquita Reserva 2017 is a special wine from a special winery called José Maria da Fonseca.
The JMF is a family business with almost two centuries of history. The company has been in the wine business since 1834, the fruit of the shared passion of a family that has been aware of the responsibility to be, at present, the oldest producer of table wine and Moscatel of Setúbal in Portugal. In addition to all these resources used in the production of its wines, what most characterizes the work at José Maria da Fonseca is an enormous passion for the art of making wine.
Periquita was the first red wine bottled in Portugal.
Periquita Reserva 2017 is an intensely aromatic and elegant red wine rich in ripe fruit flavors from the region of Peninsula de Setubal.
This is a dry red wine, a blend of Portuguese grapes: Castelão, Touriga Nacional and Touriga Franca in which they combine perfectly to give the wine a fruity profile, with an aroma of floral and spices.
The Castelao grape gives deep ruby color to the wine on the edges while the other grapes in the blend soften that in the center.
The drink presents long legs on the glass.
On the nose, intense aromas of black fruits, cherry, plums, and currants, blackberries and blueberries, chocolate with floral touches and spices, oak, and tones of vanilla.
On the palate, it is a full-bodied, very round and balanced wine, with a soft texture, denoting a soft minerality and lively acidity.
Soft tannins on the medium and pleasant finish, ending with soft spicy notes, holding rustic style, and 13% of alcohol level.
The grapes are harvested manually and fermentation takes place for 7 days at a controlled temperature, with total maceration. Aging for 8 months in new and used French and American oak barrels.
Perfect for red and grilled meats, steaks, beef, various pasta meals, seasonings, or strong cheeses.
A perfect wine for a great lunch!
Periquita is the oldest Portuguese brand marketed and deservedly became the ambassador of Portugal.
Saúde! (Cheers!)
