Quinta da Tôr – New Red Blend 2018, from Algarve

Recently I had the pleasure to taste the newest red wine of Quinta da Tôr winery, located in the Algarve wine region of Portugal.

The vineyard is located in the charming village of Tôr, belonging to Loulé, which place has a terroir conducive to a balanced maturation.
This new blend was produced from the Syrah, Touriga Nacional, Aragonez and Cabernet Sauvignon grape varieties, in the vintage of 2018.

The wine presents a deep ruby color.
Intense fresh fruity and floral aromas, on the nose. Dominant black fruits such as blackberry and black currant, with floral notes of violet, along with a bit of green peppercorn and earthy notes of wet slate.

On the palate, this beautiful red wine has an intense character and volume, but a velvety texture. Despite the higher acidity, it is in perfect balance with the medium-strong tannins. A very fruity wine with a bit of throat-burning alcohol in a medium-long, dry finish.

As the winery’s brand image is wines with high alcohol levels, it is not surprising that this new blend has a 14,5% alcohol level.

The wine was awarded the silver medal on the 12th Contest of Algarve Wines.

Recommended consumption temperature is at 16 ºC.

Pairing well with strong cheeses such as Roquefort or Chevré, fresh sausages or red meats.

A perfect wine in this winter time. Head to the winery to taste!
Cheers!
