Guarda Rios Red, from Alentejo

Guarda Rios is a red wine produced by the Ravasqueira winery in the Alentejo wine region of Portugal.

THE STORY BEHIND THE WINE

The Monte de Ravasqueira property was acquired in 1943 by D. Manuel de Mello as a family home and retreat outside the municipality of Arraiolos. Since that time this winery protects 3000 hectares of the Alentejo region. A unique place that gives rise to surprising wines of superior quality, originating in a microclimate that positively affects the vineyards planted since 1998.

80 years of history! And a story in every bottle. Ravasqueira wines were born from a dream, and every day everything is done to honor this dream, which is fulfilled through a deep admiration for the Alentejo. On the label of each bottle, they remember Manuel de Mello and his passion and dedication to the art of producing great wines. And with the aim of producing excellent Alentejo wines, this company deeply studied the terroir in order to get the best from each grape variety.

Guarda Rios is one of the main brands of Ravasqueira winery. The first harvest of this brand was in 2006, becoming one of the most popular brands in Portugal.

The name ‘Guarda Rios’ means River Guard in English and it refers to the birds who settled in vineyards next to water courses and in cooler areas. And this is an ideal terroir that expresses this wine’s exuberance and vivacity. This is a wine designed to be enjoyed with those we love most. Guarda Rios’ natural habitat is at the table, as the vineyard is to the birds.

THE WINE

This wine is a blend of a careful selection of the Syrah, Touriga Nacional and Aragonez grape varieties, which give the drink a sophisticated profile.

The drink presents a dark red ruby color in the glass.

Great aromatic intensity of dark fruits on the nose, such as plums, blackberries, blueberries and cherry jam, with notes of oak and some licorice.

On the palate, a very harmonious, juicy, silky, easy-drinking wine with a lot of spice, fruits, and subtle cocoa notes. Tasteful, growing tannins yet solid and elegant at the end.

Delightful freshness and harmony make this wine an absolute pleasure to drink both on its own and with a wide variety of food. Goes well with grilled meats or hard cheeses, but makes also a great partner to sausage and lentils, or roasted game birds.

A lovely, satisfying wine from a blend of regional varieties of the Alentejo region, known for its elegant yet powerful wines.
