Fita Azul – Blanc de Blancs Reserva Espumante

Let’s start the new year with a Portuguese sparkling wine! This is the Fita Azul Blanc de Blancs Reserva Espumante – a white sparkling wine, produced by Vinhos Borges in Portugal.

Founded in 1884 by brothers António and Francisco, the Sociedade dos Vinhos Borges soon became one of the main national winemaking companies. The company has always been committed to quality in its production, and today exporting to more than fifty countries of the five continents. They offer a unique quality, and their motto is that only it is possible to make truly unique quality wines that adapt to the consumer’s preferences.

With vast experience in the production of sparkling wines using the Classic Method, Sociedade dos Vinhos Borges took its first steps at the beginning of the 20th century, reaching its greatest success in 1934 with the production of the classic Fita Azul.

This sparkling wine was produced from the Gouveio, Malvasia-Fina, Côdega and Arinto grape varieties, originating from different Portuguese wine regions.

It was made by the Classic Method, with the second fermentation in the bottle. After preparing the base wine, the draft liquor is added and then bottling is carried out. The sparkling or second fermentation takes place at 12 °C in a cellar. The aging time is approximately 15 months. Before commercialization, ending the process with the addition of the expedition liquor.

The wine presents a pale yellow color with small bubbles.

Robust and complex on the nose, delicate aromas of green apple, lemon, pineapple, herbal notes, and some dried fruit also can be felt.

In the mouth, a medium-dry sparkling wine with delicate acidity and some sweet notes. Round wine with velvety flavors surrounded by a fresh sweetness. Refreshing, good density of fine bubbles. Sweet yet elegant fresh citrus type of flavors in the right balance. Harmony between freshness and complexity.

Alcohol content: 12% vol.

I suggest you consume this sparkling at a temperature of 7 °C, in a classic flute glass.

This sparkling is excellent as an aperitif, or pairing well with any desserts, fish dishes or light foods. And also goes well with the typical Portuguese egg cream desserts.

Just taste it!

This semi-dry sparkling wine is the ideal proposal to celebrate the best emotions.

Cheers!
