Flor de Penalva Reserva 2018, from Dão

Flor de Penalva Reserva red wine, produced by the Adega de Penalva, in the Dão wine region of Portugal.

Adega de Penalva is a reference in the cooperative wine sector in the country and in the Demarcated Region of Dão Wines.

The region has an excellent capacity to produce great wines, both white and red.

The Adega Cooperativa de Penalva do Castelo with around 1000 members, annually receives grapes from more than 1200 ha of vineyards, produces an average of ten million liters of wine, and has the most modern technology for vinification, aging and bottling of wines, being an unavoidable reference for Dão wines.

This red wine is a great blend of the Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Alfracheiro and Jaen grape varieties, from the vintage 2018. The grapes were growing on a seasoned climate with Atlantic influence and on sandy granitic origin soil.

Vinification: crushing with total destemming, fermentation in stainless steel vats at 28-30 °C, with prolonged maceration, aging in wood barrels for 3 months.

This is a Dão red wine with a modern profile and a pale ruby color.

On the nose, attractive aromas of ripe forest fruits, with spicy and woody notes, dried grass and chocolate, a hint of pine and wildflowers, and some discreet smokiness surrounding this set.

On the palate, harmonious and smooth fruity flavors, freshness, and the typical intense tannins of the grape varieties. Intense aromas, good volume and body in a long finish. A very well-done wine.

Its rich mouthfeel belies its moderate 13% abv, typical of the region.

It should be served at a temperature of 18 °C.

The wine is ready to drink now and pairs well with more elaborate meat dishes, cheeses or sausages.

A beautiful, classic Dão wine for tasting!
