Vinha da Valentina Premium 2019, from Setúbal

Vinha da Valentina Premium Red 2019 is a product from Casa Ermelinda Freitas cellars, in VR (Vinho Regional) Península de Setúbal of Portugal.

The house Ermelinda Freitas is located in Fernando Pó, a privileged area of the Palmela region. Founded in 1920, this house received the name of Ermelinda Freitas who later, together with her husband, always dedicated special attention to wine. After her husband’s death,  the work was continued with the help of his only daughter, Leonor, who took the leadership of the company and introduced major changes to create its own brands.

Nowadays, Casa Ermelinda Freitas is one of Portugal’s most exciting wineries. Its famous water-rich beach-like sandy soils give birth to rich, luscious reds and crisp, refreshing whites.

This wine was made from the Syrah, Alicante Bouschet, Aragonez and Castelão grape varieties, each is present in 25%, grown on sandy soil, on Mediterranean-continental climate.

It presents a clean, medium ruby color.

On the nose, strong aromas of ripe red fruits, cherry and raspberry, some notes of jam and prune, well mixed with components from aging in oak such as cedar, vanilla, clove and slate.

On the palate, this young wine is dense with tannins, spices and wood-aging flavors. Rich and intense fruitiness combined with medium minerality. Very complex but a pleasant, balanced wine with a medium-long, dry finish accompanied with slightly, nicely persistent tannins.

This multi-awarded wine shows a fine potential.

Winemaking: fermentation in stainless steel vats with controlled temperature and prolonged skin maceration. Aging in French and American oak wood for 6 months.

It has a 14% alcohol content.

The wine should consume at a temperature of 16-18 °C.

Pairing well with barbecue, red meats, grilled vegetables, gyros and burgers, Asian spicy meats or with the Portuguese octopus.

Enjoy! Cheers!
