KO – Vinhos de Uvas Passas, a dessert wine, produced by Barranco Longo, in the Algarve wine region of the south-Portugal.
Quinta do Barranco Longo is located in the heart of the Algarve, where the vines grow on clay-limestone terroir, and more than 3000 hours of sun per year help to ensure the exceptional quality of the grapes to produce their wines.
The name of „Vinhos de Uvas Passas” on the label means „Wine of Raisins”.
And yes! This is a great, full-bodied sweet white wine with a beautiful deep amber color.
An extraordinary wine made from the sundried Moscatel, Viognier and Chardonnay grape varieties.
On the nose, predominance aromas of apricot notes, accompanied with marmalade, fig, toffee and orange peel.
On the palate, a medium sweetness with fruitiness, fresh and full wine, with a pleasant acidity that cuts the sweetness of the wine. Tasty finish with excellent durability and some bitter notes that help to clean the palate.
Not a fortified wine, it has 12% of alcohol content.
Winemaking: harvest by hands, skin maceration and alcoholic fermentation with controlled temperature in stainless steel vats. Then two-year aging in Hungarian oak barrels. The wine owes its freshness and sweetness to the dehydration resulting from the natural ripening of the grapes in the vineyard.
It goes well after desserts, or with any sweet foods, strong cheeses, foie gras or the regional Algarve sweets.
And what the “KO” means in the name? This KO is referring to Knockout – this wine is a real victory at the end of an excellent meal!
