What better way to welcome the new year than with a lovely Portuguese sparkling wine? This year, I chose a semi-dry white sparkling from the Casa Ermelinda Freitas winery in the Setúbal region.
This Ermelinda Meio-Seco (semi-dry) sparkling wine underwent a light fermentation process in stainless steel tanks. Subsequently, the secondary fermentation occurred in the bottle, followed by a minimum bottle aging of 9 months.
Persistent, tiny, lovely bubbles are running around in the bright golden-colored espumante, which was produced from the Arinto and Fernão Pires grape varieties.
The aromas are reminiscent of citrus fruit and floral notes, such as green apple, lemon, lime, tangerine, rose, and orange flowers.
On the palate, this is a well-structured, modern, and elegant sparkling wine. The good acidity gives it freshness and longevity. Pleasant and fruity finish.
The best consume at a temperature of 8-10 °C.
Happy New Year to everyone! May the new year bring health, happiness, joy, and success to your life!
And enjoy more Portuguese wines!
Cheers to the year 2025!
