Arvad Wine, in Algarve

It was in the Algarve region that the wine was introduced into Portuguese territory when the Phoenician travelers arrived here from the east and took root in the Silves area.

The Arvad Wine winery was born on the land of the Algarve, next to the Arade River, overlooking the city of Silves, in 2016.

Now these 12 hectares of vineyard are a place of Alicante Bouschet, Touriga Nacional, and Cabernet Sauvignon red grape varieties, as well as Alvarinho, Arinto, and Sauvignon Blanc white ones.

These vines are growing in a Mediterranean climate with Atlantic influence, on calcareous clay soil.

From these grapes, Bernardo Cabral, the award-winning winemaker produced the first wine in 2019 who was awarded the Winemaker of the Year by Revista de Vinhos, a leading wine magazine in Portugal, in 2016.

And in August 2020, the Arvad Rosé 2019 received approval and a Gold Medal in a wine tasting held by the prestigious Fórum de Enólogos.

Their white wine from the Arinto, Alvarinho, and Sauvignon Blanc grapes has a lot of freshness with fruity notes. On the palate, a smooth wine with a refreshing acidity.

The rosé from Touriga Nacional and Cabernet Sauvignon is a very light wine with notes of fresh red fruits and light florals. Very fresh drink reflecting the good acidity that it has, in an involving and smooth set.

The red wine from Touriga Nacional, Alicante Bouschet, and Cabernet Sauvignon presents an elegant combination of ripe red fruits and balsamic notes, with subtle notes of spices and some vanilla suggestions.

And the wine from the unique Algarve grape variety, Negra Mole has a background of notes of cherry and fresh raspberries that some aromatic herbs delicately combine.

Their wines are aging both in French oak barrels and 750 Liter Terracota Amphora.

Whether you arrive by water or land, after a guided walk in the vineyard, you will enjoy a wine tasting with regional delicacies (sausages, cheeses, and canned food) on the winery’s porch.

Yes, you have a possibility for an Arade riverboat ride as well! This program includes a boat ride round trip between Portimão and the winery, a guided tour, and a tasting.

Come and retain in the memory the good taste of this Phoenician Algarve.
