Red, white or sparkling wine? These are the best Portuguese wines of the year!

The contest of the wines of Portugal, organized by ViniPortugal took place between the 2nd and 6th of May.

The Jury made up of 109 experts, 86 national and 23 international judges in the sector, including winemakers, sommeliers, journalists and wine educators, were in charge of selecting the best.

The task could not have been easy since quality is increasing year after year in the most diverse national producing regions.

The Jury tasted, scored and elected the best Portuguese wines of the year from 1450 references. Eight were distinguished as best of the year in their category. The winners were announced last Friday the 6th, at a Dinner and Awards Ceremony, which took place in Santarém.

36 medals with Great Gold, 107 with Gold and 291 distinguished with Silver, in a total of 442 medals were awarded.

Best Red Lot – Falcoaria Grande Reserva, 2018, Casal Branco Sociedade de Vinhos S.A.

Best White Lot – Falcoaria Colheita Tardia, 2016, Casal Branco Sociedade de Vinhos S.A.

Best White Lot – Quinta da Rede Vinha do Pinheiro, 2018, Quinta da Rede

Best Sparkling Wine – Marquês de Marialva Cuvée Primitivo Brut Nature, 2014, Adega Coop. from Cantanhede

Best Liqueur – Bacalhôa Moscatel de Setúbal Superior 20 Years, 2000, Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal, S.A
