Adega Grande Reserva – another wine, produced by a cooperative winery, in the Tejo wine region of Portugal.
Being the oldest in the county, the Adega Cooperativa de Benfica do Ribatejo was founded in 1957.
Most of the vineyards are located in low-productive limestone and clayey soils, called Charneca, and a small part in very fertile alluvial soils, in the marshland of the Tagus River.
Today the winery, has associated winemakers, who explore about 500 hectares of vineyards, distributed by 70% of white varieties and 30% of red varieties. In reds, Castelão and Tinta Roriz predominate.
This wine was made from the Castelão grape, growing on sandy, calcareous clay soil and temperate climate.
Winemaking by fermentation at a controlled temperature between 25 and 28°C. Aged for 6 months in French oak barrels.
The drink presents intense garnet color.
Ripe red fruits aromas on the nose such as strawberry, red plum, and some oaky notes, coffee and chocolate, with a buttery and smoky bouquet.
On the palate, a fruity and extremely soft, smooth wine. A medium-bodied red with soft tannins and high acidity. Fruity flavors in a medium persistent finish.
Alcohol content: 13,5 %.
Serve this wine at 16-18 °C of temperature.
Pairing well with chicken, the Portuguese octopus and black beans.
