Did you know that Ciconia is the Latin name for the white stork?
But how does this relate to wine?
There is a family project in the Alentejo region of Portugal, named Casa Relvas. That began in 1997, by Alexandre Relvas, in Redondo of the Alentejo region, when he saw a landscape similar to his African roots. And now, two generations are dedicated to the management of around 350 hectares of vineyards. They work in three genuine terroirs, producing 6 million bottles of wine a year.
And the white stork’s main habitat is the agricultural and forest areas of the Alentejo in Portugal. This is why Ciconia became one of Casa Relvas’ brand names.
This Premium regional red is a blend of Touriga Franca, Touriga Nacional, and Syrah grapes, among others. Their mix results in a ruby colored, very characteristic wine.
Aromas of fresh, wild berry fruits, eucalyptus, and spices are integrated with toast notes. A well-balanced and full-bodied red wine, with rich taste and fantastic concentration of tannins. On the palate, very present spices, thanks to the aging period in French barrels for 9 months. Persistent finish.
Alcohol content: 14,5%
Serve at a temperature of 16 °C.
Goes well with pork ribs, red meats, or mature cheeses.
This wine wasn’t brought by the storks, but by the Casa Relvas winery, and I really like it! Would you try it?
