In 1890, José da Costa, a man from the Douro already with knowledge and experience of the vinification of Port Wine, builds Quinta da Carregosa which is a brand project to produce farm wines. The first vines were planted about 80 years ago and their soil was removed manually in an unparalleled effort, which only the men of the Douro were able to achieve.
Today the 3rd generation inherits the past that continues with the same hard work and persistence.
There are almost 40 acres covered with vines, where the Costa family has invested in a continuous quality process, resulting in the production of the brands of the 5th Carregosa.
This Fonte da Loba Reserva DOC red wine is a good blend of three traditional Douro grape varieties: Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and Tinta Roriz.
Careful manual harvest in 2019, and aging for 6 months in French oak barrels.
The wine carries its grapes attitude with a profile of intense aromas and flavors.
It presents a beautiful ruby color in the glass.
Intense aromas of black fruits on the nose, reminiscent of blackberries, blackcurrants, black cherry and blueberries, slightly sweet aroma os vanilla, and spicy notes of white pepper and licorice.
Complex aromas on the palate. Even after taking a deep breath, the flavor is very subtle and disappears quickly, leaving only a dryness.
Touriga Nacional gives intense floral flavors and balsamic notes to the wine, and the Touriga Franca creates a mature black fruit flavor. The Tinta Roriz gives a good structure and concentration, firm and juicy at the same time, the soft tannins are well rounded by the black fruits.
Very elegant drink with an excellent balance and a very persistent finish.
This red wine shows excellent evolution in bottle.
(13,5 % alcohol content)
Should be consumed at a temperature between 16-18 °C.
It is a good wine for everyday use. Goes well with cheese starters, as well as meat dishes, typical of Portuguese cuisine, roasted red meat, and game dishes such as stewed wild boar.
This wine was created to please a certain group of connoisseurs. With intense aromas and significant color, this red ends up standing out for an excellent quality-price ratio.
And yes, it’s a must-try!
Cheers!
