Guarda Rios Signature 2019, from Alentejo

Monte da Ravasqueira, besides being a family estate, is also a fast-growing wine producer, now producing wines from three different regions in Portugal.

Based in Arraiolos, in the Alentejo wine region, the 3000 hectares of the property give rise to more than five Alentejo brands besides incorporating the production of other wine brands, that are originated in the Lisbon and Tejo regions.

In addition to the production and commercialization of wines, Monte da Ravasqueira maintains other projects and develops activities related to the cork forest, breeding and commercialization of cattle, fattening of black pigs from the Alentejo and production and marketing of honey and olive oil.

Guarda Rios is one of the leading wine brands in Portugal. This brand was created in the early 2000s by their Chief Winemaker and quickly began to take the lead in the Portuguese market. Now, the brand offers three different levels: Basic, Signature and the Gold Edition.

This presented wine is a Guarda Rios Signature from the vintage 2019.

The brand’s name ‘Guarda Rios’ means ‘River guard’ who is the messenger – a Kingfisher, presented on the label.

This young wine has a nice ruby color with light edges and presents visible wine tears on the glass. It was produced from the Syrah, Touriga Nacional, Alicante Bouschet and Aragonez grape varieties, that were grown on argil-limestone soil.

Intense aromas of spices and wild berries on the nose such as plum, blackberry, raspberry and cinnamon, with a light touch of vanilla, cedar and some notes of dark chocolate, along with licorice and jam.

On the palate, a harmonious, velvety, very delicious red wine that presents a fine structure with medium-level tannins and acidity, in a very good balance. Generous fruity flavors and little oaky ones. And all the flavors ending in a medium-long finish.

Winemaking: the grapes harvested manually and mechanically. Partial crushing and total destemming. Cold maceration, pre-fermentative, and fermentation at 26ºC. In the wine cellar, these grapes were vinified at low temperatures in order to preserve all the intensity of the varieties. Fermented in stainless steel vats and partially aged in French oak barrels.

It has a 13.5% alcohol level.

Consume this wine at a temperature of 14-16 °C.

Perfect pairing with mature cheeses, salami, chorizo, pork meat, or spicy Asian dishes.

A beautiful drink from the Alentejo region… a great, very complex, balanced wine.

A fantastic young wine!

Cheers!
