The 11th Great Portuguese Wine Festival returned to Albufeira this May and raised € 2,500 of funds to support Mozambique.
Wines of Portugal were shown in Albufeira
More than 100 Portuguese wine producers were registered for the third largest wine show in Portugal, which took place in Albufeira on the first weekend of this May. More than 9,000 people visited the event in the three days and tasted around 900 different kinds of wines from all over the country. In addition to tasting the wines, visitors could also participate in workshops, attend the presentation of the Algarve Wine Route and watch cooking demonstrations.
There are producers who have been present since the first edition. More than 20 Algarve producers appeared at the show, among others: Adega do Cantor, Quinta do Canhoto, Quinta da Malaca, Cabrita Wines, Quinta do Francês or Única – Adega Algarve Cooperative.
As Carlos Oliveira, Chancellor of the Confraria Bacchus de Albufeira said: “The origin of wine in Portugal began in the Algarve, where wines are distinguished by contact with the sea breeze. The Algarve wine is affirming itself for quality, combining the destination of sun and sea with gastronomy and creating an alternative itinerary for wine lovers”.
The importance of this event for the Algarve is recognizing the usefulness of the initiative in the development of Algarve Tourism and Gastronomy.
This is recognized as the largest wine show in the south of the Tagus, and for producers, it represents an opportunity to make their wines known. This wine show put the Algarve on the map of wine lovers in Portugal, strengthening the quality of the wines in this region.
This year the event supports Mozambique. Following a cyclone, more than 600 people lost their lives and many thousands still need humanitarian aid. For this, €1 will be raised for each glass sold for a wine tasting or chicken from Guia for sale in the restaurant area and will be delivered to a humanitarian organization.
