Pavão Grande Escolha, from Vinho Verde

Pavão Grande Escolha DOC white wine, produced by the Vercoope Associated Wineries in the Vinho Verde wine region of Portugal.

Vinho Verde DOC is considered the largest demarcated region in Portugal and one of the largest in the world, essentially due to its extension and the area of land dedicated to vine cultivation.

Vercoope is a union of seven Wine Cooperatives in the region. It was created in 1964 with the aim of bottling, marketing and distributing the wines produced by the winegrowers of the cooperatives. It combines the production of 5000 winegrowers.

Vercoope annually produces 8 million bottles of Vinho Verde, 30% of which are for export. Its mission is to improve quality and to conquest of new markets.

Having won more than 100 awards, medals and distinctions in the press in the last 5 years, and it positions itself by providing consumers with excellent quality Vinho Verde wines at fair prices. With more than half a century of activity, it occupies a prominent place in the sector.

This DOC white wine is a blend of the Arinto (40%), Alvarinho (30%) and Loureiro (30%) grape varieties, from the harvest of 2021.

The name of the wine ‘Pavão’ means peacock in English, as it can be seen on the label as well.

It presents a citrus color with a golden hue.

Medium intensity, distinct aromas are mixed on the nose. White fruits such as apple and peach, with lime and rose. Perhaps a little chamomile as well.

On the palate, fresh, soft and citric taste, with a smooth touch of peach and ananas. Medium-high acidity but well-balanced wine, lively, pleasant and refreshing. Quintessential Vinho Verde style that is ending in nice light bubbles. Short, refreshing finish.

Simple but very good wine. Worth trying.

Alcohol content is 11.5% vol.

Like most Vinhos Verdes, it should be drunk young, ideally for a year and a half after harvest. It is recommended to consume between 8-10ºC.

Ideal to accompany appetizers, seafood, salads and various light dishes as well.

This is such a lovely Vinho Verde if you are looking for something dry, slightly sparkly and tropical.
