Coutada Velha Signature 2019, from Alentejo

Coutada Velha Signature 2019, a regional red wine, produced by Monte da Ravasqueira, in the Alentejo wine region of Portugal.

The winery is located in the municipality of Arraiolos, occupying a vast area of typical Alentejo landscape. Aiming to produce excellent Alentejo wines, this company has deeply studied the soils, slopes, drainage and sun exposure, in order to get the best out of each variety. Its history begins in 1943 with breeding the Lusitano Horse. The first vines were planted in 1998 and the first wine was launched in 2003.

The name Coutada Velha means ‘old country house’.

This wine comes from a Coutada – a private hunting ground – on Herdade da Mata, in the Alentejo, which is reflected in this wine through its complexity and structure, through the nobility and exclusivity that this wine of superior quality presents.

Alentejo region is occupying an area equivalent to one-third of Portugal, it is one of the regions that has been clamoring for recognition of the quality of the wines it produces. The region is vast and varied, but only five percent of the land is dedicated to wine production.

This wine is a blend of the Aragonez, Trincadeira and Cabernet Sauvignon grape varieties.

Characteristics of wines made with these grapes in Alentejo: Aragonez, its characteristics are higher alcohol content, balanced acidity, red fruit aromas and great storage potential. Trincadeira is characterized by making balanced wines, with good structure and elegance. Cabernet Sauvignon produces full-bodied and concentrated wines, with powerful tannins and often aged in oak, so that the wine becomes more complex and smooth.

The grapes were harvested both manually and mechanically. Partial crushing and full destemming, cold maceration, and fermentation at 26 ºC. Then aging for 8 months in French oak barrels.

This Coutada Velha Signature shows the characteristics of the local terroir, presented a deep ruby color with violet hues in the glass.

On the nose, intense aromas of black fruits, such as plum, blackberry, black cherry, fig and currants, in addition to notes of almonds, vanilla, chocolate and tobacco from maturation in oak barrels.

On the palate, dry wine with medium acidity, strong tannins, medium to high body and balanced alcohol. Intense flavors of plum and blackberry jam.

Full of freshness and elegance on the palate, fine and complex. Harmonious and persistent finish with strong spicy notes.

13,5% alcohol content.

Consume this drink at a temperature of 16 °C.

This wine is great to accompany red meat in barbecues, baked in the oven or stews, as well as pork cuts, game meat such as wild boar, mushroom risotto, and pasta with spicy sauces or bolognese, or as well as on its own.

Portugal just continues to amaze us with its high-quality wines and this is a classic example. Coutada Velha is one of the exclusive brands of Ravasqueira, designed exclusively for the customers and the experience of consuming wines of superior quality.

Cheers!
