Marquês de Borba Colheita 2018, from Alentejo

Marquês de Borba Colheita from the Alentejo DOC of Portugal, produced by the João Portugal Ramos – Vinhos, SA, in the vintage of 2018.

This Marquês de Borba Colheita 2018 red wine reflects the winemaker’s desire to create unique wines that show the character of the Alentejo, as well as a consistent quality over the years.

The wine is a blend of Alicante Bouschet, Aragonez, Trincadeira, Touriga Nacional, Petit Verdot and Merlot grape varieties, growing on limestone and schist type of soil.

Colheita means ’harvest’ in Portuguese, so Colheita is a wine from a single harvest.

Harvested both by hand and machine, picked at the optimum stage of ripeness. Temperature controlled fermentation of fully de-stemmed bunches in stainless steel tanks, and a smaller part is fermented in marble lagares. Aged in oak barrels, resulting in a wine with aromatic concentration.

Very clear, light, almost transparent ruby color.

The wine presents excellent fruity concentration on the nose, dark fruits and berries, plum, cherry, blackberry, blueberry and blackcurrant, slightly accompanied with oaky notes and spices, licorice, vanilla and butter.

On the palate, very fruity flavors and a good balance between the round, soft tannins and acidity. The freshness of the fruits stands out also in the short and dry finish.

A medium-bodied, young, fruity wine with 14% alcohol content.

Ideal pairing with red and grilled meats with rice, fish dishes or grilled vegetables.

This wine should consume at a temperature of 16-18 °C.

Six different grapes went into this beautiful Alentejo blend and the result is a fresh, juicy wine with a light structure and plenty of fruit flavors.

Enjoy! Cheers!
